Welcome to the Ouje-Bougoumou Cree Nation.
We are a First Nation community affiliated with the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee located in northern Quebec. We are the most recent First Nation to become incorporated into the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee, and incorporated also into the Cree Nation’s Treaty, the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
We invite you to enter our website and learn about our very special history, our achievements, our community development innovations, our vision for the future and of course….our people.
The Ouje-Bougoumou Cree Nation fought a heroic struggle to overcome dispossession, forced relocations and marginalization in our traditional lands. We fought against those forces that wanted to ensure we would not be in the way of resource development. Through inspired leadership and community unity we won the right to have a permanent home, we won recognition of our rights within our traditional homeland and and we created an internationally-acclaimed village built in accordance with our traditional Cree understanding of sustainable development.
In that same spirit, we are now entering the next phase of our development with a new generation of leaders and a renewed commitment to build on our ancient traditions and values while providing for our people in a modern economy.
We hope that you will enjoy your virtual visit with us, and we hope also, that you will be interested enough in what you learn that you will want to visit us in person.
Meetwetch. Thank you.
