Final Team List and Production Schedule - Hanover shows
Oujé-Bougoumou "One World 2000 Tour"
1: Meet the Team!
Part One: Administration
Team Leader: Gaston Cooper
Gaston has primary responsibility for the whole team, and works with Mike Hicks and Alex Keyserlingk, the two technicians. Gaston has full authority for solving any conflicts, revising the show schedule, interfacing with Expo 2000 authorities. Gaston will also "pinch hit" as a cultural performer, and will organize a simulation of the "Walking Out Ceremony" two times during the week.
Second Leader/Finance and Paymaster: Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith
Nancy also has primary responsibility for the whole team, and will be responsible for paying out per diems (daily money for expenses and food) while on the trip.
Technical Producer: Mike Hicks
Mike, who many people in Oujé-Bougoumou have met through his work for Aanischaaukamikw, is responsible for producing our show. He will work with the German stagehands, lighting and sound crew, and with Expo 2000 administration to make sure our show looks and sounds great.
Technical Coordinator: Alex Keyserlingk
Alex works for HyperActive Productions with Mike Hicks in Ottawa. He will also work on the technical side, but will work with Oujé-Bougoumou people to make sure our information, reports, photographs get out and onto the web on a daily basis for media back here in Canada. Alex will work with the "web communications crew" (see below).
Communications Team
Harry Bosum
Harry is one of the Youth Representatives on our team: he will be team photographer and reporter, taking pictures of our performances for three purposes: 1) to be posted on the Internet on the Cree culture site and on the Oujé-Bougoumou site; 2) for use by Canadian media (including, of course, The Nation); 3) for the community to see when we return from our trip. Harry will also be filing stories via e-mail to be read on the Oujé-Bougoumou radio station while we're away.
Chantal Mianscum
Chantal is one of the Students on our team, and in addition to helping Gaston and Nancy, she will work with Alex, Harry, and Lance to get our material uploaded to the Internet.
Lance Cooper
Lance, as a Youth representative, will work with the Production team helping Mike and Alex, and will also work with the Communications team because of his strength in computer knowledge.
Part Two: The Storytellers
Charlie Bosum
One of the community's best-known storytellers and cultural teachers, Charlie will tell a number of traditional stories and may just get in a few jokes, too. Charlie will be performing in Cree with interpretation into English.
Albert Mianscum
Albert has a tremendous knowledge of the Cree legends and is a gifted entertainer and storyteller: he represents the Elders on our team and brings much knowledge of Cree culture to the performance.
Freddie Bosum: Charlie's Interpreter and Assistant
Maybe the best person to interpret for Charlie is his son: Freddie also has a strong knowledge of the history of Oujé-Bougoumou and will be available to visitors to talk about the community and its healing process.
Minnie Wapachee: Albert's Interpreter and Assistant
Minnie will help the Europeans understand our Cree ways by helping communicate Albert Mianscum's stories, and will also be available to talk to visitors about not just Oujé-Bougoumou but all of Eeyou Istchee - a good thing, since she's snowshoed almost the whole of our territory!
The Cultural Demonstration Team
Jossie Shecapio-Blacksmith
An accomplished Native artist, Jossie will do some traditional carving work and talk to people about the Cree lands, about the importance of our rivers and lakes, and about how we have always made our own tools, toys, and musical instruments.
Billy Capisissit
Billy will talk to visitors about traditional medicines, remedies, and about some of the basics of surviving in the bush.
Special note: Cultural demonstrations will involve almost all team members at one time or another. For example, we will do a simulation of the Walking Out Ceremony twice during the week: this will involve our Elders, youth, and the parents and child
Part Three: The Musicians
Music Leader: Kenny Mianscum
Kenny is a well-known recording artist; performing in front of the world at Expo 2000 will be no big deal for him!
Richard Bosum
Richard has co-written and performed with Kenny and is an accomplished singer on his own, too.
Norman Wapachee
Norman is another Student representative on the team - he will be taking the stage with Richard and Kenny.
