Waapihtiiwewan School has been open since September 21, 1993. Our school was designed by the famous Native architect, Douglas Cardinal. The school was named by a youth of Oujé-Bougoumou named Irene Bosum. The name chosen was “Waapihtiiwewan” which means a “vision”.
Waapihtiiwewan School is a Pre-K to Sec. V School with a student population of about 162. The language of instruction is Cree and is taught from pre-k to secondary 5. English (Second Language) is taught from grade 1 to secondary 5. Every school follows the GVC (Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum).
What most students look forward too is the “Cree Culture Class”, which is held one week every month. The location of the school is very easy to find, as it is situated right around the Center Core of the Community. It has its own playground and a lot of room for the students to move around when they are outside. The Youth Center is just right beside our school. The Sports Complex is right behind the school, and most of the outdoor facilities are located around our school.
